Trust- not Skip through the Process
Yesterday, much like any lazy Saturday, I was idly
scrolling through my Insta account when suddenly, an old Hindi song from the
’90s popped up on my timeline. More on that in a bit.
This morning, I found myself in a reflective mood,
contemplating everything that’s transpired since February 25. It’s truly been a
rollercoaster—moments of emotional highs, long stretches of despair, hopes
rising only to fall apart, and times where everything seemed perfect only to
disappear like camphor.
All of this led to bouts of anxiety, stress, and maybe even
depression—though I haven’t sought medical advice, so I won’t label it as such.
Yet despite everything, it’s been an eventful period, one in which I’ve lost
more than I’ve gained.
Coming back to that song— “Aakhir Tum he Aana Hai- आखिर तुम्हे आना
है., ज़रा देर लगेगी.”
from the film Yalgaar, picturized on Sanjay Dutt and voiced by Udit
Narayan. Sanjay’s character tries to woo Madhuri in the rain. While the song
celebrates romantic euphoria, it also held deeper meanings for me. As an
instrumentation engineer, I couldn’t help but see it through the lens of my
training. Here's how:
Where I went wrong:
- I
didn’t identify the correct set of process variables.
- My
sensors/transducers were either faulty or poorly calibrated.
- I
mistook noise for signals.
- I
bypassed essential process nodes and variables, presenting personal
perception as data.
- I
ignored feedback—or failed to design the right feedback loop altogether.
In one of the verses, Sanjay says “Apna ko manana Hai… आपनो को. मनाना है
ज़रा देर लगेगी, अपनो को
मनाना है ज़रा देर
लगेगी”—a quiet
declaration of self-belief, confidence in the system design, and trust in the
process.
Perhaps
that’s where I strayed. I tried to time the outcome, bypassing the process.
That never works.
Still, it's a sweaty, memorable lesson learned. And if life
offers me another opportunity, I believe things will improve.
Long live Bollywood, long live Process Engineers—one
nourishes the heart, the other sharpens the mind.
